All about balls/testes

Size of boys testes at different ages

There are many different words for boys testes which include balls, googlies, nuts etc. Whatever you choose to call them they are present when you are born, but it may take a bit of time for them to descend into your scrotum (the skin sac in which your testes sit). The job of your testes is to produce sperm, which, at the right moment, and with the right woman’s eggs will end up producing your babies.

In order to produce sperm efficiently your testes need to be kept at the right temperature and the muscles in the wall of scrotum (called the cremaster muscles) with contract when you are cold and hold your balls closer to your body to keep them warm and when you hot, these muscles will relax and allow your balls to descent further away from you body and cool off. If you think that one or both of your balls never, ever, ever comes down into your scrotal sac, then you should go and see your doctor.

If you feel a funny lump in one of your balls, or if one of your balls hurts a lot, then it would be a good idea to go and see your doctor as well. At puberty your balls and your scrotal sac will grow larger.
