We all come in all sorts of different sizes, shapes and weights. What weight you are depends on
• How much you eat
• Your genes
• How much exercise you take
Over the last 20 years there has been a 20% increase in the number of people who are overweight.
You can find out how heavy you are simply by weighing yourself – but that won’t tell you whether you are fat or thin (though looking at yourself in the mirror might give you some idea!).
The best way to find out whether you are within the normal range of weight for you height and age and sex is to go to the Body Mass Index site (BMI) and enter your height, weight, age and sex.
You can also check your weight on the growth charts but these won’t take into account your height.
